MSI 271QRX QD-OLED Review
Conclusion
Conclusion
The OLED monitor market is quickly becoming fiercely competitive. The very nature of it currently being at the pinnacle of display technology means a lot of heavy hitters are entering the arena. How does the MSI 271QRX QD-OLED stack up against this competition?
The Good
Firstly, as we said in our introduction it’s very difficult to make a bad one. This has the positive effect of ensuring any you buy should be plenty good enough. It does, however, also mean that a monitor needs to do something special to stand out. With a reasonable size and medium resolution the MSI OLED doesn’t shout from the rooftops. What it does have, though, is an insane refresh rate. 360Hz. If you want great image quality and high FPS then this is a weapon in your armoury. We can’t think of many monitors that combine this high refresh rate and have this level of image clarity.
The Less Good
Secondly, and perhaps the biggest negative, is that this came along after the MSI MEG 342C. That monitor was part of MSIs premium MEG range, obviously at the upper range of their offerings. What this means is that you not only get a high quality set of features, but you also get a lot of the extra things that justify the lofty price point. In the case of the 342C you get an ultrawide panel with custom stand design and gold accoutrements. All of that for just £300 more than this model. 34 inches versus 27, 3440 x 1440 against 2560 x 1440. Curved versus flat. It’s a raft of differences that cost more, but not staggering amounts more. Especially given how much the curvature negates the reflectivity we saw on this panel.
Summary
All of which means that you would have to require a very specific set of features to make the MSI 271QRX QD-OLED appear in your shopping cart. You need restricted desk space so that the MSI MEG 342C wouldn’t fit. You’d need games that don’t really make use of the 21:9 aspect ratio and, perhaps most importantly, you’ll need to use all of this 360Hz potential. Otherwise we think it’s clear that the extra £300 for this monitors bigger stablemate is more than justified. We’re not saying the MSI 271QRX QD-OLED isn’t worth your investment, merely that when you’re investing a thousand pounds it really needs to be special, or far more affordable, than the intense competition.
