MSI MPG 341CQPX QD-OLED Review
Conclusion
Conclusion
A 34″ ultrawide OLED panel that supports 240Hz and is currently available for a hair under £800. It’s fair to say that if you’re even slightly interested, now is the time to buy.
Picture quality of OLED displays has to be seen to be believed. It doesn’t matter how good your LED one is. There is a depth of black and a richness of colour available on OLED displays that simply doesn’t exist elsewhere. The newest entry in the MSI range isn’t only impressive in those areas. It is also VESA ClearMR 13000 certified. VESA ClearMR is a measure of motion blur replacing MPRT. When it initially launched in 2022 the tiers ranged from 3000 to 9000. Clearly (ha) the ceiling has been raised, enabling the 341CQPX to hit 13000.
Power and Glory
Should you fear your system hasn’t got enough power to manage an ultrawide display it’s worth bearing in mind the actual pixel count you’re dealing with. A 4K display requires your graphics card to render 8,294,400 pixels per frame. The MSI MPG 341CQPX only asks for 4,953,600, a difference of 3,340,800. The 21:9 panel is actually deceptive. Whilst you might need the beefiest of graphics cards to run the 4K panel at a high refresh rate, the 341CQPX saves around a third of the pixels, which can help push that frame rate up towards the 240Hz limit of the panel.
Whilst we largely focus on PCs here, we know most of us also own consoles. Should you wish to use this MSI display with your gaming machine the MPG 341CQPX QD-OLED you’ll be thrilled. Not only do you get 120Hz, but Variable Refresh Rate and Auto Low Latency Mode. It’s great if you stream and have your console next to your PC.
In normal gameplay you would imagine you don’t need to invoke the various tools MSI have developed to ease burn-in concerns. After all, no games come with taskbars or logos. Perhaps, but what they do have are usually ammo and health displays, and these are static. You probably don’t play one single game so much that there is any risk, but someone somewhere does, and MSI have them covered. If they, or you, are so focused on one single long-form gaming experience then the 3 year burn-in warranty will help us all sleep at night.
Final Thoughts
The MSI MPG 341CQPX QD-OLED provides a high refresh-rate ultrawide experience like few others. With rich colours, deep blacks, and that immersive curve, it’s a big step ahead of most LED panels. Only relatively average HDR performance stops it from rubbing shoulders with the flagship options – MSIs own MEG 342C for example. With a strong warranty and currently a low price, it’s an easy winner of our OC3D Gamers Choice Award.
