It’s not that we’ve got a slight obsessive element to our design ‘eye’, but the top right of the Gaming X Trio packaging looks like it was left empty for an extra feature that never arrived. It’s exactly where we’d expect a “buy this and get a free copy of this game” type sticker.

The Gaming X Trio cooler is clearly a successful design as it’s looked ‘right’ whether it was on the RTX 3090 or here on the RTX 3060 Ti. Three fans with plenty of modernist angles dominate the top side whilst the graphene backplate is comfortably the most attractive of the three cards we’re looking at here, thanks to that flat black finish.

All the MSI Ampere cards we’ve reviewed so far have been the Gaming X Trio and so it’s very familiar by now. High fin density to give you the largest surface area to cool things, thick backplate, additional metal brace to keep things straight and level and the short shroud to get rid of the hot air with the least restriction to keep things cool.

Like all the other RTX 3060 Tis the MSI has a single HDMI and three DisplayPort outputs, all of them capable of 8K, should you have spent your entire budget on your display rather than your GPU.
