Cherry B.Unlimited Wireless Desktop 3.0 Review

Cherry B.Unlimited Wireless Desktop 3.0 Review

Conclusion

The Cherry B.Unlimited Wireless Desktop 3.0 is a combination mouse/keyboard product for those who are seeking an affordable way to get onto the peripheral ladder.

It would be easy to get all snooty about it and complain that the mouse doesn’t have any side buttons, a keyboard from the mighty Cherry brand that isn’t equipped with their outstanding mechanical switches and neither of which having lighting isn’t really worth your time. But more fool you. This isn’t remotely a product for those who are committed to the PC lifestyle who are looking to upgrade already existing peripherals. This is for those people who either don’t have a keyboard and mouse at all, or have a really terrible “free with a pre-built PC” keyboard of the type you get from PC World and the like.

For all those potential purchasers the B.Unlimited makes an awful lot of sense.

The wireless performance is very good. It is capable of running smoothly a long distance away from the receiver, perfect if you want to stream content to your television and chill on the sofa, or just want to tuck the tower away and free up your desktop from the usual spaghetti that it acquires. The batteries are sealed in and charge simply via USB. It doesn’t require any software to be installed. It’s plug, play, get on with it.

Of the two included items the keyboard is the star of the show. It’s full size, silent, doesn’t flex or wobble, it’s everything you can want from an affordable scissor switch keyboard. Cherry might be more famous for a mechanical switch style but they can do the scissor style with aplomb too. We’re not very keen on the font choice for the key caps, but that’s a matter of personal taste.

The mouse, by virtue of it lacking the side buttons, is less impressive but it’s still more than good enough for the majority of first users. 2000 DPI is fine for desktop use, and the mouse is a good side and comfortable in the hand.

We all have to start somewhere. If you compare the B.Unlimited to a gaming mouse and mechanical keyboard either one of which costs more than this entire setup then of course it wont come out looking too good. However, if you look back at the keyboard and mouse that you started with, if we look back at what we started with, then the Cherry B.Unlimited Wireless Desktop 3.0 is an absolute star. Good quality, robust, works well, wireless, affordable. It ticks an awful lot of boxes.
