Up Close

We often speak about the importance of easy to recognise packaging and the Cooler Master use of purple as a brand colour certainly enables it to be spotted at a glance. The box has a clear product image and all the important features writ large. We might take slight issue with the use of the word hidden to describe the D-Pad, but otherwise everything is clear and concise.

Within the box we have an easy to follow guide to all the features you receive with the MM830. The mouse itself has very large LMB/RMB buttons allowing for the mouse to be held in both claw and palm styles, and the placement of the DPI adjuster is the difficult combination of easy to hit and yet not in the way when things get hectic. The scroll wheel is rubberised and grooved for reliable adjustments, and has an audible and tactile click for each position letting you scroll through your skills or inventory with ease and accuracy.

Cooler Master MM830 24000 DPI Mouse Overview

On the underside we find the Pixart sensor hole and three large low-friction pads letting the MM830 glide across a wide variety of surfaces. It’s particularly nice to see the thumb platform getting an extra pad to assist this easy movement.

The cable is lengthy and braided with a gold plated USB connector. Inside the plastic tab is purple, showing the attention to detail the Cooler Master designers have put into the MM830.

Lastly on the side we can see the D-Pad that is the big element of the MM830. You can also see the OLED display but we’ll be looking at that in more detail in a moment. Naturally you can customise these buttons to be anything you like, but by default the frontmost and backmost buttons are the usual front and back browsers configurations, whilst the bottom button is set to profile cycling and the top button is the Tactix button, which you hold down and then press others to adjust lighting or run macros and the like.

The right hand side is surprisingly smooth. Normally we see a rubberised side here too, but the MM830 has nothing at all. Although this shot does clearly show the light bar at the rear of the mouse.
