Corsair K65 Plus Review

Conclusion

The Corsair K65 Plus is one of those products which comes along that speaks of the company that produces it. Not because it’s especially ground-breaking. Not because it has anything new to bring to the party. But because it takes something that we would all find useful and hones it.

It is a keyboard which works as happily on your phone or console as it does your TV or computer. But the problem of moving between so many different connected devices is simplified. If you switch regularly between all your devices then having to re-pair it every time would quickly be tiresome. The K65 Plus gets around that with three different pairing memories. Having a wireless keyboard with lighting normally means charging it nightly. We didn’t flatten this at all from a full charge at all in our days with it. Having seen dozens of all black keyboard designs we really like the grey-blue and navy blue colouring, whilst the chrome escape key echoes the chrome dial for a harmonious, symmetrical effect.

Where we really think the Corsair factor shines is the build quality. This is a robust keyboard. It’s weighty. It doesn’t flex at all. That’s important if you’re using it on your lap to send a message to your enemies before chucking it on the floor to smite them again in the next round. With pre-lubricated Corsair MLX Red mechanical switches you have full NKEY rollover for capturing those face to keyboard moments in all their glory. You also get a super smooth typing experience befitting of the red linear switch. All this means that the K65 Plus is quiet. With a handy off-button for the lighting you could use this in a dark room while watching a film without dazzling anyone, or waking anyone up. It’s very quiet indeed.

As well as the usual support for the Corsair iCUE software, another string to the bow of the K65 Plus is how the Fn key combines with so many other keys to give you full control over everything from lighting to macros without needing to install the software. Perfect if you’re only running it as a phone/tv/console input option. If you don’t need a full size keyboard, and want the flexibility of it’s connection options, the Corsair K65 Plus 75% mechanical keyboard is a fantastic weapon of choice and wins our OC3D Gamers Choice Award.
