Up Close – Packaging and Contents

The packaging is up to the high standards we’d expect from Corsair with a box which apes the key cap double thickness walls by being as robust as any keyboard box we can recall. There are the clear product shots and feature listings too, in case you happen to be browsing in a shop and wonder what’s inside.

Within the box that sits below the keyboard you have the warranty, always good Corsair guide, as well as a host of extra key options. There are a MOBA set, a WASD set, whilst in the other packet there are a set of blue key caps for the Stream Deck integration – entirely optional of course – as well as a Corsair logo alternative escape key.

We’ll take a closer look at the details in a moment, but for now the overview of the K95 Platinum XT looks very much like the regular K95 that preceded it. With such a popular design it would have been ridiculous to reinvent the wheel.

On the underside we find plenty of cable routing options should you take advantage of the pass through USB port or, for reasons we can’t fathom, want the keyboard cable to come out at the front. You can also see the large rubber feet that keep it firmly in place on your desk as well as sideways feet which eliminate the keyboard falling over when you’re being firm with it.

One of the big upgrades on the XT is the removal of the double-sided plastic wrist rest and a new padded one included in its place. It’s very plush, supportive yet soft, and a massive step up on the previous one. It’s just a shame that aluminium isn’t magnetic so it has to be attached and detached with plastic clips. That’s the price you pay for a sturdy chassis though and to be honest you are only likely to install it once.
