Our current mouse of choice is the Corsair Nightsword, a weighty beast with many onboard buttons and all sorts of lighting elements. It’s the antithesis of the design ideology behind the Corsair Sabre RGB Pro Wireless Champion Series which is all about simplicity, low weight, high performance. We mention this because it shows the broad range of mice available on the market and why there is so much choice.

The Sabre is very much a mouse designed squarely for those of you who care about sensor performance and button response time above all others. It’s a Thoroughbred Horse for the mouse world.

Let’s tick off the easy stuff. The design is slender and only slightly for the right handed, with no curve as such and only a minor bulge on the right side and the buttons position on the left being the indicators that this isn’t quite fully ambidextrous. However, if you’re a leftie who is used to making do with a right handed design it’s as suited for left-handed gamers as anything this side of a genuinely symmetrical offering. The buttons themselves are Corsair Quickstrike, which in laymans terms mean there is no discernable gap between the active part of the button and the microswitch beneath it. Fast and responsive is the watchword and something the Sabre delivers on in spades. What we particularly love is that the side buttons are similarly crisp, rather than the somewhat squidgy ones that we’ve had on lesser mice. Crisp side buttons aren’t unique, but when the main buttons are so responsive any slack here would be amplified. The light weight nature works well in conjunction with the sensor and fast response buttons to ensure you have maximum control over every movement, and those movements are handles with zero latency by the Corsair Slipstream wireless technology or, if you prefer, using the supplied cable to run wired.

Starring at the top of the bill though is the Corsair Marksman sensor. Designed in conjunction with the legends at PixArt the sensor has numbers that beggar belief. 100-26000 DPI adjustable in 1 DPI increments. 650 Inches Per Second tracking speed at 50G acceleration ensures that no matter how frantic the going gets you can be certain that the mouse will keep up with your muscles. That sensor though, blimey it’s a superstar. The insane DPI gives you supreme accuracy in the right titles and it tracks beautifully regardless of DPI setting. There is no inertia or angle snapping. It’s an absolute joy to use and if you’ve ever felt that your weapon of choice was all that stood between you and a multi-million pound eSports contract then the Sabre will truly determine whether your skill ceiling is hardware related or merely you. After all, we can’t all be world champions, but the Sabre Pro will let you unleash the potential you have.
