NZXT packaging is very much in the premium tier. The Function Elite – and all of the Elite products we’re reviewing today – have outstanding packaging. Clear product imagery and the famous NZXT purple are only part of the equation. The thick cardboard of the box ensures that it all arrives in flawless condition. As you can see above the F12 key here our courier was so unkind to the outside box that the Function Elite box was dented. Delivery companies amirite.

Look how thick that cardboard is. Premium.

Getting it all out of the box and the first thing that strikes you is the weight of the MiniTKL. The new 6 layer design of the chassis certainly gives a classy feel. The supplied key puller – also in NXZT Purple – is capable of removing the switches themselves too, should you wear one out. The supplied cable is long and feels great with a premium braiding.

Whilst the Function Elite isn’t designed as a customisable keyboard – and at this price point you shouldn’t expect it to be – you do get three spare NZXT Swift magnetic switches. That’s very generous of NZXT as we know that these aren’t cheap, and we’ve seen plenty of more expensive offerings that don’t give you a replacement switch just in case.

The underside isn’t massively exciting in normal circumstances, but we want to draw your attention to a couple of elements. The feet are huge, and with a fully rubberised outside the Function Elite won’t slip. It’s a big step above the plastic feet with a tiny bit of rubber gummed to the bottom that rolls off after about a month. The star, however, is the two outside ‘dot’ panels. These are incredibly grippy. If you’re the type who moves your keyboard about on your lap then you’ll never find the Function Elite MiniTKL out of your grasp.

The only connection is the single Type-C power cable. You can also see a closer look at the two heights available on the feet.

Beneath the Double-Shot PBT keycaps are the NZXT Swift Magnetic switches that are the pièce de résistance of the newest NZXT Elite entry. Standard stalks allow you to use 3rd party keycaps too. The typeface is thin, which might affect the RGB brightness.

Nope. Not too bad at all. The outside of the Function Elite MiniTKL is a full 360° RGB affair. How easy is it to set up in the software?
