NZXT Function Elite MiniTKL Review

Introduction

The NZXT keyboard range continues to expand. This time last year we reviewed their Function 2 keyboard, boasting optical switches with two actuation depths. Today the newest model on the block is in the office as part of NZXTs Elite range. Welcome to the NZXT Function Elite MiniTKL.

Given how much we loved the original Function keyboard, and then the Optical switch equipped Function 2, we’re very excited about this Magnetic Hall sensor Function Elite.

As you might expect from a product called Elite, NZXT have upgraded the build design beneath the hood for sturdy and quiet use. Additionally the Function Elite MiniTKL comes with NZXTs Swift Magnetic switches. These have 40 different actuation points, configurable on a per key basis. If you really want to tailor your keyboard perfectly to your needs, this ticks all those boxes. Should you wonder why you’d want that many actuation points, consider the following two examples. One, you’re a typist aware that little fingers aren’t as strong as index ones. By changing the actuation point you can make the typing experience more uniform.

Secondly, and probably a more common use case, is that you want fast movement in game, but don’t want to easily, accidentally, throw grenades at your feet. You could set movement keys to be actuated at a shallow depth, whilst requiring skills and throwables to only ‘pop’ when the key is fully depressed. Exactly. It’s way more useful than you might initially think.
