Up Close

The Wooting One is available in two flavours, the Premium which has a full set of alternative switches (if you purchased Blue you get Red, Red you get Blue) or the Basic, which has 8 additional switches, 4 Red 4 Blue. Given that you’ve probably purchased your preferred switch style straight away, we don’t think that there is much wrong with saving a few pounds and buying the basic. The packaging is minimalist with just the Wooting logo and the website address on the reverse of an otherwise all black box.

Inside we find a long USB to Mini USB power cable, the aforementioned 8 extra switches, a dual purpose key and switch puller and a postcard from the team behind the Wooting One.

As a tenkeyless design the Wooting One is compact. The keyboard itself continues the minimalist theme of the packaging and puts us in mind of the old Das Keyboard. Nothing to distract. No frippery. Keyboard. Bosh.

On the underside we find seven non-slip grips to keep the keyboard in place, as well as two feet for ergonomic considerations and a cable clip that allows you to route the cable to the left or right as well as through the middle. There isn’t a USB pass through so you can put the keyboard cable wherever suits your setup best.

The Flaretech switches have a Cherry stem on them so that you can swap the keycaps should you so desire. The switches themselves are easily changed too thanks to the included puller and a design that makes the Wooting One simplicity to take to pieces, should the need arise.

The keyboard has a nice rake to it without the feet raised, but if you prefer your keys a little higher then the feet are also a good height as well as being sturdy. Sometimes putting up the feet causes a keyboard to become a little wobbly, but not here.
