Wooting One Basic Red Analogue Keyboard Review

There are some very flashy RGB lighting effects currently being beta tested, but for the moment – at time of review at least – the Wootility just supports lighting changes. However, it’s a very easy system. Pick the colour you want. Paint the keys. Done. You can click and drag. You can click individual keys. It’s all extremely simple to use and, best of all, applies instantaneously to the Wooting One itself. You don’t have to click a shade, apply, wait for the software to overwrite the memory, discover that the colour isn’t quite replicated to your liking and repeat. Colour. Click. Look. Move on.

  

With so many options under your fingertips the Wootility software could have been an absolute nightmare. Admittedly early versions were extremely rough and ready but the most current public version is excellent. Everything is clearly laid out, clearly labelled, and applies instantly. With half an eye on the keyboard you get instantaneous feedback for the tweaking you do in the software. Additionally we like that the gamepad mode gives us input style options and clear indicators of exactly which control on a pad you’re mimicking with the keyboard.

The simplicity of adjusting the necessary elements is a key component of any peripheral, but particularly one that is as powerful and customisable as the Wooting One, thus we’ll borrow a demonstration gif from their website which shows how easy it is to adjust each analogue key. There are deadzone adjustments and response curves all within a click or two of the mouse and all laid out in an easy to understand manner. It’s the antithesis of head-scratching, Youtube tutorial watching power-user features available on some software utilities we could name.
