Up Close with the Corsair SF1000
As an SFX power supply, the Corsair SF1000 is an impressively small unit. 1000 wats is a lot of power to go through such a small package. That said, we have seen SFX PSUs that can deliver 1300 watts of power with the Cooler Master V1300 SFX Platinum, so this isn’t the first time that we have seen this much power from an SFX PSU.
As mentioned before, this power supply uses Corsair’s Type-5 cables. This means that this PSU can be used with any Type-5 compatible custom cables from CableMod or other custom cable providers. Corsair also sells their own custom cables, allowing users to build a PC with coloured PSU cables if they wish.
Powering the SF1000 is a standard C13 power connector, what we commonly call a “kettle lead” in the UK. At the rear of the PSU we have a standard PSU switch and some hexagonal ventilation holes. Pretty standard for a Corsair PSU.
Cables and Cable Management
Provided with this power supply is a few Velcro ties, which comes in handy for cable management. All SFX PSUs are intended for small form factor PCs, where good cable management is crucial.
All of the cables that are provided with the SF1000 are black and pre-braided. These cables are between 300mm and 445mm in length. Exactly lengths for each cable are available on page 1 of this review.
Below is a closer look at one of this PSU’s pre-braided cables.
To support standard ATX PSU mounts, Corsair has provided a custom bracket with their SF1000 that allows this compact PSU to be mounted within standard PC cases. Most users will not want to place such a small PSU inside a full-sized ATX case, but the option is there for those who want to. Perhaps some modders will find a better use the added space that an SFX PSU will free up inside a larger PC case?
Below we have pictured Corsair’s SF1000 beside their older SF1000L power supply. The new SF1000 is both smaller and more efficient than its predecessor, making it a better power supply for all small form factor PC builders.
