Cooler Master MWE Gold V2 1050W and MWE Gold V2 1250W White Edition PSU Review

Conclusion

Conclusion – Quiet power supplies with solid specifications

When I am purchasing a power supply, there are a few things that I am looking for. I want a long warranty, I want a power supply from a reputable brand, and I want a power supply that is quiet. Cooler Master’s new MWE Gold V2 1050W and MWE Gold V2 1250W White Edition meet these criteria, especially with regards to noise levels.

During our testing of the MWE GOLD V2 1250W model, our unit’s fans didn’t spin at any time during our testing. The power supply simply did not get hot enough to do so. Part of the reason for this is the fact that our tester tops out at 1200 watts, and the fact that ambient temperatures were below. Even so, no fans at over 1000 watts is an impressive feat, and Cooler Master claims that these units can run safely at ambient temperatures of 50 degrees. That’s a crazy hot working environment.

Throughout our testing we never heard any notable noise from either these power supplies. The MWE Gold V2 1050W and MWE Gold V2 1250W White Edition are exceptionally quiet PSUs, and their power efficiency levels are everything we expect from an 80+ Gold Rated unit.

Angled 12VHPWR cables

Our only real gripe with these two power supplies is their 12VHPWR cables. While we appreciate what Cooler Master wanted to accomplish with their angled cables, they really needed to ship two of these cables with both potential 90-degree angle options. These cables will be angled in the wrong orientation for some graphics cards. That means that you cables will look messy when you use this PSU with the wrong graphics card. While this is not a major concern, it is annoying. Thankfully, Cooler Master’s 12VHPWR cables can be replaced with custom 12VHPWR cables from companies like CableMod, but this is an additional expense for users to consider.

Overall, Cooler Master have build a solid selection of power supplies with their new MWE Gold V2 series. They have all of the features that users should expect, they deliver solid efficiency levels, and all models are backed with a lengthy warranty.

What impressed us most about these PSUs was how quiet they were. The fans on these units rarely spin under normal operating conditions, and when they do they are crazy quiet. For that reason, we are giving both Cooler Master’s MWE Gold V2 1050W and MWE Gold V2 1250W White Edition OC3D’s Silence award.
