Assassin’s Creed Valhalla PC Performance Review and Optimization Guide
Graphics Settings Comparisons – Do you need Ultra High Settings? Â
When looking at Assassin’s Creed Valhalla’s graphical presets, one thing is clear: all presets that are medium and above provide gamers with a great visual experience. Yes, Ultra High settings look the best, but most gamers will have a blast playing Valhalla at Medium or High settings and do so with the benefit of higher framerates.
With this in mind, we wouldn’t be surprised if the game’s console versions operate at PC settings which are similar to Medium, with consoles like the Xbox Series X opting for settings which are closer to high. That’s the best area of Assassin’s Creed Valhalla’s performance/visuals spectrum.
Sadly, lighting settings change each time we load this scene in-game, but despite this variability, the graphical difference between Low and medium settings is clear. Ground textures are more detailed, more detailed assets are loaded at a distance, and shadows become much more accurate. Medium settings are a great starting point when playing Assassin’s Creed Valhalla on PC, almost regardless of your hardware setup.

Moving to high settings will see Assassin’s Creed Valhalla’s clouds become much more detailed, and increases the game’s distant shadow detail significantly. Textures also see an increase in sharpness, though VRAM usage remains below 8GB at 4K.

At Very High, distant shadows continue to increase in detail, though not to a high enough degree to be noticed outside of side-by-side comparisons. Outside of minor time of day differences and lighting changes, both screenshots appear almost identical.

In this set of screenshots, the difference between Ultra High and Very High are minor, which makes sense given the minor performance changes which are present between these two presets.
