Assassin's Creed Valhalla PC Performance Review and Optimization Guide

Optimised Settings – Which settings have the most performance impact?

No single setting within Assassin’s Creed Valhalla delivers insane performance benefits. Unlike Assassin’s Creed: Odyssey, Valhalla’s Volumetric Clouds settings have a minor performance impact and there is no single setting which can deliver 20% performance benefits.

The largest performance changes within Assassin’s Creed Valhalla can be seen by adjusting the game’s Anti Aliasing settings, with the game’s Medium and Low AA settings providing gamers with significant boosts to game performance.

Optimised Settings

As will be detailed on page 7, setting Assassin’s Creed Valhalla’s AA setting to medium or low has few visual consequences, making this graphics option a “must lower” in our book. Gamers will see a significant increase in their average framerates with no real graphical compromises. Lowering AA settings to medium yielded us an 8.5% performance boost in average framerate and lowering it to low deliver an 18.2% performance boost.

Depth of Field is only activated in a meaningful way during conversations and cutscenes, giving the setting little impact on the game at large. If you see large performance dips during conversations and cutscenes lower this setting, if not, set it to medium or high.

Setting Volumetric Clouds from Ultra-high to High saw our average framerates increase from 42.3 FPS to 44.4 FPS, representing a performance boost of around 5% for a minor drop in cloud detail.

Moving shadow detail down from Ultra High to High will see average framerates increase by around 3%. Similar gains can be seen by lowering world detail to High or Very High, or by disabling motion blur. Setting textures to medium also delivers a 5% increase in performance at 4K.

Clutter settings have little to no impact on performance, which means that most gamers can keep this setting at very high. Screen space reflections only have a performance impact on certain areas of the game and are worth keeping on in these instances.
