Borderlands 3 PC Performance Review and Optimisation Guide

1440p Performance – Benchmark Results

At 1440p we can see just how CPU-limited our Nvidia Geforce RTX 2080 Ti Founders Edition is at 1080p/1440p, with the game offering almost identical average and 95th percentile framerates at Badass settings. This is why Borderlands 3’s upcoming DirectX 12 patch is due to have a huge impact on the game, and why the game’s current DirectX 12 problems are so aggravating.

Most graphics cards in this lineup will be able to play Borderlands 3 at 1440p 60ish FPS with a mixture of Medium and High Settings. Even the RX 580 and GTX 1060 should get close to this performance target. This again cements the fact that Borderlands 3’s Badass settings are a little too demanding for a lot of today’s PC hardware.

When comparing Nvidia’s RTX 2060 series to AMD’s Radeon RX 5700, we can see that even under DirectX 11, AMD has a firm win on their hands. Te RX 5700 bests Nvidia’s RTX 2060 and bites the heels of the RTX 2060 Super while the RX 5700 XT can best the RTX 2060 Super and gets within spitting distance of the RTX 2070 Super.

We can also see that the Radeon RX 5700 XT can almost match the Radeon VII’s performance. hThis showcases the transformative nature of AMD’s Navi architecture. The RX 5700 XT costs around £380, whereas the Radeon VII launched earlier this year for £649.
