Dark Souls: Remastered PC Performance Review

Dark Souls: Remastered PC Performance Review

CPU Scaling – Ryzen VS Intel

The original Dark Souls was a CPU hog at the time of its release, especially on PS3 and Xbox 360, both of which use processors that are extremely weak by today’s standards.

One of the greatest benefits of this remaster is the fact that it has been designed to run on modern consoles, with both the Xbox One and PS4 using similar x86 Jaguar CPU cores. These processors are also considered weak when compared to modern PC gaming processors, with the PS4’s eight Jaguar cores running at a measly 1.6GHz.

With both the Xbox One and PS4 targetting a framerate of 60FPS, it is easy to see why our Intel and AMD Ryzen processors are seemingly unchallenged by whatever Dark Souls has to throw at it, even in the game’s infamous Blightown area.

Regardless of the CPU or core/thread count that we used Dark Souls: Remastered ran at a steady 60FPS, though we will note that the game sometimes exhibited momentary slowdown when some assets are getting loaded into the game. These blips in performance were momentary and did little to impact the overall gaming experience.
