Optimised Settings (With Ray Tracing)

Deathloop’s ray tracing support surprised us, as enabling the game’s ray-traced Ambient Occlusion Performance setting has minimal performance impact when playing the game with our RTX 2080 Ti at 4K. It ran similarly to the game with its CACAO setting set to quality.

Strangely, when we enabled ray traced Ambient occlusion with ray-traced sun shadows, we achieved higher performance levels than when we enabled ray-traced sun shadows alone. It is likely that using these two settings together requires a similar number of ray casts to using ray traced sun shadows alone (in outdoor scenes), and that disable CACAO in favour of its ray-traced counterpart has some performance benefits.

Adding AMD’s FidelityFX Super Resolution feature will allow gamers to claw back a lot of performance, so much so that setting FSR to quality mode delivers us higher performance with ray-traced AO (performance setting) and RT sun shadows enabled to deliver us the same performance levels as when FSR and ray tracing ar disabled.

Deathloop makes efficient use of ray tracing, though that doesn’t mean that ray tracing isn’t a demanding setting to enable.

The tests below were conducted using an RTX 2080 Ti Founders Edition.
