Image Quality Bugs and Performance Scaling

Crysis Remastered is not the best game to showcase Nvidia’s DLSS technology, as most PC gamers will find that the game is CPU-limited, especially when using the game’s highest graphical settings.

Below we can see that Crysis Remastered offer players almost identical 1st percentile framerates when DLSS is set to DLSS’ Balanced, Performance and Ultra-Performance modes. Our testing uses the start of Crysis’ Relic level, which is not the most CPU-limited scene that Crysis Remastered possesses.

At 4K with our Gigabyte RTX 3070 Eagle graphics card, we can see below that DLSS can significantly boost Crysis Remastered’s performance on Geforce RTX hardware. This makes 4K 60 FPS performance a lot more viable, though gamers will still need to tackle the fact that Crysis Remastered is a CPU-limited title.

Crysis Remastered’s players will need to lower some of the game’s CPU-heavy settings to achieve higher framerates. This can be accomplished by lowering the game’s Vegetation setting to medium or by disabling Ray Tracing. Sadly, these settings have a huge graphical impact on the game, but they are the easiest avenues to higher framerates when the game is CPU-limited.

Bird Streaks – A bug with DLSS?

When DLSS is enabled in Crysis, we noticed that streaks started to appear behind birds and some falling leaves within the game. This proved to be very distracting and takes away from the game’s otherwise solid implementation of DLSS. These graphical artefacts are rare, but Crytek needs to address this graphical bug.
