DLSS VS FSR In Call of Duty Vanguard and why both are necessary

DLSS VS FSR In Call of Duty Vanguard and why both are necessary

DLSS and FSR Tested – Performance Scaling

Call of Duty Vanguard’s performance can vary wildly during the game’s campaign, with some sections of the game running at much lower framerates than others. This is especially true during cinematic or scripted sequences. This is masked on consoles thanks to dynamic resolution scaling features, but this results in substantial framerate fluctuations when playing the game using a fixed screen resolution on PC.

Our tests below are taken from the start of Call of Duty Vanguard’s Lady Nightingale mission, starting with the mission’s opening cinematic and followed by a short section of gameplay. This highlights the huge variation in Call of Duty: Vanguard’s framerates.

Below, we can see that Call of Duty Vanguard’s PC performance is significantly boosted thanks to the addition of FSR and DLSS. a test for 65% resolution scaling is also included below, showcasing Call of Duty: Vanguard’s built-in resolution scaler (which we have compared directly to DLSS and FSR on page 4 of this analysis).

Note that FSR’s Ultra Quality Mode used a similar resolution input to DLSS’s Quality mode, explaining why both features deliver similar results performance-wise. That said, DLSS gives higher framerates overall when using its highest quality option. That said, FSR takes the performance lead at lower settings, with FSR’s balanced mode using a similar baseline resolution to DLSS’ Performance mode.
