Gears 5 Alpha Test Performance Review

1080p Performance – Benchmark Results

At 1080p we can see that Gears of War 5 is going to be a reasonably demanding PC release, with both the RX 580 and GTX 1060 failing to achieve 1080p 60 FPS minimum framerates when using the game’s Ultra preset. Even so, 60FPS framerates should be more than possible when using lower settings, perhaps the game’s High preset.

When moving to Nvidia;’s RTX 2080 Ti, we only see a modest boost in framerate over our GTX 1080, likely due to CPU related performance limitations. More performance will possible on a CPU with more single-threaded performance, and maybe on processors with more than six cores.

To achieve a steady 60 FPS framerate we needed to use an Nvidia GTX 1070, RTX 2060 or an AMD RX Vega 56. As a whole, Gears 5 seems to favour Nvidia hardware.
