Biwin NV7400 and X570 NVMe Drive Review

Conclusion

It isn’t often that you get to be there at the genesis of something. We here at OC3D have been very lucky. The first Roccat products were in our office, and whilst Turtle Beach might have rebranded the company, we still remember them fondly. Similarly we can remember the first ASUS Strix products. Back when they were really going big on the Strix Owl thing. Today we get to be here at the dawn of a new company.

Well, we say new. It’s vital to remember this isn’t an upstart brand with no experience. Rather, it’s a company with more experience than most. Just one that you’ve only just heard of. As you could see from our recent use in the AMD rig, both drives – and indeed their DW100 memory kit – work fantastically. So much so that many people asked us for a full test suite on the drives alone, and that is what we’ve brought you today.

What we want from our drives is speed, reliability and attractive pricing. The NV7400 is a Gen 4 drive that ticks all the boxes. Because it’s considered – laughably – not the latest and greatest Gen5, the pricing is very competitive. Imagine something that can push over 7000 MB/s being old hat. Hilarious. It’s way faster than most people will need, and faster than most applications require. If you’re going for a build that has performance to burn, but doesn’t also set fire to your bank balance, it’s a fantastic choice.

However, PCI Express 5.0 is now so entrenched in the current hardware that most of you building a new rig will want to investigate the Biwin X570 Pro. As you could see from our testing it’s a monster for the money. Only the recently reviewed Samsung 9100 Pro edges it in the majority of our benchmarks. But that’s 25% more expensive for negligible speed gains.

All of which make the new Biwin M.2 drives a fantastic option whether you want speed or affordability. Best of all you get to say you were there, because we have no doubt that this is the start of a new giant in the memory world. The Biwin NV7400 and X570 Pro both win our OC3D Performance award.
