Introduction
Any time a new series of hardware appears on the market, the older version gets a big price cut. When that new hardware is miles ahead, perhaps that price slashing is still not enough to make it a tempting purchase. However, for the last two or three generations of processors they’ve all had very similar levels of performance. What has this to do with today’s review of the PCSpecialist Cruiser iCUE Supreme R? It’s based around the B650 chipset and AMD Ryzen 9 7900X3D processor. Still very capable products.
As you would expect from PCSpecialist, it’s not just the motherboard and CPU that are attractive. The Cruiser iCUE Supreme R ticks an awful lot of the desirability boxes. Memory comes courtesy of the 6000 MHz Corsair Vengeance DDR5 kit is fast and, at 32GB, beefy. For storage the 2TB Corsair MP600 M.2 is a drive we’ve lauded before. Of course if you’re in the mood for a gaming system the GPU is an important part. There are loads of graphics cards in the Nvidia range but we feel that the RTX 4070 Ti Super combines performance with affordability to be the best choice for those without unlimited funds.
If you’re a regular reader of OC3D you’ll know how good PCSpecialist systems are. They always select components which give you plenty of usability without putting in high end hardware for the sake of it. Or, more cynically, their profit margin. Instead you get hardware that doesn’t break the bank but neither does it remind you of your fiscal limitations. They always perform better than their price tag might make you expect. Plus, best of all, the build quality is exceptional regardless of which end of their price spectrum you’re buying from.
Let’s look at the Cruiser iCUE Supreme R.
