The Gigabyte Rig Review

The Gigabyte Rig Review

Up Close

The case we’ve chosen is the BeQuiet Pure Base 500. Anyone who has ever decided upon a new case will understand that there are dozens and dozens to pick from, and although you never want to go as cheap as possible there is a law of diminishing returns with your case budget. The Pure Base 500 is a nice middle ground being very affordable whilst also giving you all the features that you actually need for a build such as this. We don’t think it hurts that it’s a very attractive case too with the soft rounded corners and a very smooth frontal design.

The build itself fits neatly into the case. It probably says a lot for how used we are to AIO coolers that the Dark Rock Slim dominates the visuals of the inside. Thankfully the design is gorgeous with the black aesthetic perfectly matching the black PCB of the Aorus Pro motherboard and, with the side in place, vanishing into the shadows.

The monochrome aesthetic is now so firmly entrenched in our hardware worlds that we don’t really give it a second thought. It is fair to say that with a little bit of clever decision making with your component you can enhance the overall look whilst still giving you a platform upon which to express your individuality through the RGB lighting.

This shot not only gives you a clearer look at the Gigabyte X570 Aorus Pro motherboard – assuming your desire to see it wasn’t sated by our review of it a little time ago – but also shows off how well the silver parallelogram on the side of the Aorus RX 5700 XT graphics card matches up to the chipset heatsink on the motherboard.

To help keep the all-important cool air flowing into the case and across our components we’ve got the BeQuiet Silent Wings 3 fans in the front of the Pure Base 500 chassis. We normally consider the graphics card to split the rig into two areas due to it having such a large horizontal cross section and so having two fans in the front ensures both areas get lots of cool air to help dissipate heat.

Lastly before we get to our overclocking results the memory for this system is provided by the excellent G.SKill TridentZ kit which also has the benefit of fitting in beautifully with the overall looks of the system. We think you’ll agree that a little extra care in making sure everything is harmonious can make an affordable setup look significantly pricier.
