Fallout 4 High-Resolution Texture Pack Review

Fallout 4’s high-resolution texture pack has been released for PC, significantly increasing the game’s storage requirements and offering a significant visual overhaul.

This new update/free DLC will require an additional 58GB of storage space and is said to offer visual improvements throughout the game, from the countryside all the way to the city. Right now the game list the GTX 1080 as a GPU requirement, which means that this patch will require a GPU with a lot of VRAM and a lot of memory bandwidth.

Experience the wasteland like you’ve never seen it before with the Fallout 4 High-Resolution Texture Pack! From the blasted buildings of Lexington to the shores of Boston Harbor and beyond, every location is enhanced with ultra-deluxe detail.

Today we will be looking at the performance impact of this new update and let you know whether or not this update is worth downloading.

Drivers

For this game, we will be using the newest drivers that were available when this update was released, which is Nvidia’s Game Ready Geforce 378.57 driver. This testing will only include Nvidia hardware as this update should only affect VRAM use and have a minimal effect on performance.

Test Setup

We will be testing this game on our dedicated GPU test rig using Nvidia’s GTX 1080 Founder Edition
