Dark Souls: Remastered PC Performance Review

Dark Souls: Remastered PC Performance Review

Introduction

The original PC release of Dark Souls was a train wreck, offering PC gamers with limited graphical options, a locked internal resolution that can be stretched to fit onto the player’s monitor and a maximum framerate of 30FPS.

PC gamers were extremely disappointed by these performance levels and limitations, as a higher 60FPS framerate could offer players more responsive gameplay and controls, a must for such an infamously challenging game.

Dark Souls: Remastered promised to deliver gamers higher performance levels and improved graphics when compared to the title’s last-generation console counterpart, offering 60 FPS gameplay on PC, PS4 and Xbox one alongside higher gameplay resolutions than the title’s original release.

The question today is whether or not Dark Souls: Remastered offers the definitive Dark Souls gaming experience and whether or not the game is worth its high £34.99 asking price on PC.

Drivers

Both AMD and Nvidia have decided to release no day-1 drivers for Dark Souls: Remastered. In our testing, we will use the most recent driver releases from both companies, which is Geforce 397.93 on the Nvidia side and Radeon Software Adrenalin Edition 18.5.1 driver on the AMD side.
