Corsair Virtuoso RGB Wireless SE Headset Review
Up Close
The Virtuoso continues the Corsair ethos of clear packaging with an obvious product image and simple information which gives a classy appearance to things. There is a cardboard sleeve around the main box which contains everything.
Although the outside of the inner box is black on the outside once you lift the lid the famous Corsair yellow comes to the fore and punches you in the face with its brightness. It made us smile as until we lifted the lid we were saddened at the thought that Corsair had abandoned the yellow in the pursuit of a premium aesthetic. The Virtuoso headset itself rests upon a bag we’ll look at in a moment.
Beneath the bag and headset is a cardboard box that contains the cables necessary to get you up and running. A USB cable can be used for connection or just charging. Beneath that we have the Slipstream receiver dongle which has a cool light-up logo on it. Beneath that is the microphone, about the highest quality microphone we’ve ever felt. Lastly the 3.5mm cable if you want to connect the Virtuoso to a more usual device, or just insert it into your Dualshock pad to take advantage of the PS4 compatibility.
Normally when we find carry bags included with headsets they are simple drawstring affairs with more luxurious ones being suede or similar. The Virtuoso has a diamond padded finish and feel which is so good it could double as a handbag if it had a shoulder strap. Inside it there is a special pocket for the cables. Very nice.
The headset itself gives you a firm impression of quality with the leather headband/ear cups and nearly all metal construction. If you’ve ever spent a lot of money on something and been disappointed with the reality, then you’ll appreciate this Virtuoso headset being exactly what we’d hope to get when we splashed the cash.
The hinges are always a weak spot on headsets but the Virtuoso design gives full confidence. Metal construction combined with a high degree of movement to alleviate strain and keep the Virtuoso fixed in place and comfortable in use should work well to give you many years of pleasure.
