More than a forum, we’re a family!
Introduction
So as we head ever further from the holiday periods and we move steadily into the summer months, we start to forget how great it is to have friends and family so close.
As the year starts to grind away with work and thoughts of deadlines, it was nice to stop and think back over how during the holiday periods we seem to find time for old friends and family often neglected through the remainder of the year, short of birthdays and special events. It was then that a thought occurred to me, over the time I have been a member of the OC3D forum, I have made some great friends with whom I have spent many hours conversing with.
So while looking over forum threads, looking for some inspiration on what to write about, I remembered an event back in September last year. A story that gripped many on the forum, a story of generosity and friendship. A story that sums up the experience of OC3D.
It all started with OC3D regular, SParkleDJackson, contacted our News Guru, WYP, with an “odd question”. Â SparkleDJackson’s rig had recently stopped working, and without the time to troubleshoot the problems due to other commitments, he proceeded to ask WYP if he would be able to help out and test the parts for faults. Â Living only a short distance apart, they met up at a local Mexican Burrito bar to discuss further.
Not sounding too interesting at this point I know, but I have failed to mention that there was more to this than just checking parts for faults. SparkleDJackson had also suggested that if any parts are still working, that WYP can use them for OC3D or donate them to someone in need of an upgrade. The parts being donated were by no means low end or outdated, offering to donate the following :
CPU: Intel Sandy Bridge i7 3930K
Motherboard: ASUS X79 Rampage IV Extreme
RAM: Corsair Dominator Platinum 4x4GB 2133MHz DDR3
Â
SparkleDJackson had already spent weeks trying to find the time to troubleshoot the parts, but to no avail. So the idea that these parts could help someone else was the way forward. His generosity spoke volumes to WYP, so when asked why he was doing this, his reply was simply “If a single part of my drama can bless someones life then I’m good bro”. Â An attitude that speaks volumes for the type of person that frequents our forums, and an inspiration to others, while serving as a reminder that there are still some good people out there!
So while discussing a few things, WYP mentioned a friend of his, Aaron, who was currently waiting for a liver transplant, who is a gamer and will soon be in a position where he, post-transplant, will not be able to leave his house for several months. Aaron was currently in a position where he was constantly tired and lives with a liver at 5% functionality. Â He was an Engineering Student who studied with WYP at Queens University Belfast until his condition worsened. Â A close friend that deserved some good luck in recent times and to help in the struggle of times to follow.
