BitFenix Shogun Review

Up Close:  Exterior

Measuring 565x250x525mm(HxWxD), the Shogun is quite a large tower case, and at 14.15KG it’s no light-weight.  As we’ve already stated, BitFenix have used some Aluminium to keep the weight down, the top panel for example is formed from a beautiful single piece of Aluminium, however the front panel, although appearing to be Aluminium is actually plastic, which is a bit of a shame, but then again will help keep the price down.  As you can see, the Shogun has a large tempered glass window on the left hand side of the case.  The window is inset into the case, which is nice to see, as all too many cases have them simply attached to the side sitting proud, which does spoil the lines.

  

 

The right hand side of the case also has a full size tempered glass window, and like the left side window this one is set at a sloping angle, which if you have OC3D tendencies may drive you a little nuts.  It certainly makes us want to straighten it up.  Bizarrely, although the front panel is plastic, what appears to be a cover for a 5.25″ bay is actually Aluminium.  We say “appears to be” as BitFenix don’t actually quote a 5.25″ bay in the specs.

 

 

The Front I/O is nicely placed being both discrete and easy to access and with a brace of USB 3.0s as well as 2.0s,and of course HD audio what more can we say.

 

 

The rear of the case is a pretty standard ATX job, although for such a large case, that’s able to take full size E-ATX boards, we did perhaps expect more than just seven expansion slots. 

 

 

Four rubber pad feet, what more can we say?  Actually, this has to be the cleanest looking case underside we’ve ever seen.
