AMD Kaveri A10-7850K & A10-7700K Review

OpenCL

AMD claim that the new Kaveri processors are capable of attaining far better performance in OpenCL orientated tasks. We therefore added two OpenCL tests to our range, and retested the older 6800K to give comparison.

LuxMark

Here we only see an increase in performance when the GPU is added into the equation. Our APUs in fact performed marginally worse than the 6800K in the CPU only test.

Musemage

In Musemage we again see very little difference between the 7850K and the older 6800K. The 7700K does lag behind a little, but we’ll put that down to the lower clock speed. . What’s more interesting is the effect the 2400MHz RAM had in these tests. We see a 20% increase in performance from adding the faster RAM which is a massive difference in our eyes.

BasemarkCL

BasemarkCL is a relatively new test that isn’t really available yet for public use. However, it does offer a range of different applications that may utilise OpenCL and so it does give a good indication of the all round performance of the processors.

Basemark gives us slightly different results here. We tested all the APUs with 2400MHz Memory. It’s a clear win for the 7850K in every test. The 7700K is slightly dragged down by its performance in the Video and Image tests and does lose out slightly to the 6800K. However, the Fractal and Physics tests are perhaps more relevant for a gaming scenario, and in these instances both of the Kaveri APUs do still pull away from the older Richland model.
