ASUS Prime X670E-Pro WiFi Review

ASUS Prime X670E-Pro WiFi Preview

Introduction

As we continue our catch up of the newest AM5 motherboards for the 7000 series of AMD Ryzen processors, it is time to check out the ASUS Prime X670E-Pro WiFi. For a long time we used the ASUS Prime as the baseline motherboard for whatever new CPU launch was around. It was the high-end non-ROG motherboard in the ASUS range, and was the perfect way to get a solid feel for the new hardware, so it is something new for us to be reviewing it a little bit after launch instead of on the day.

Unsurprisingly its white aesthetic meant that a certain member of the office always had a soft spot for it too, and we know that many of you out there enjoy the white system look and the Prime is one of the few that caters to such designs. Recently, however, ASUS have slightly toned down the Prime specifications and design to be a more affordable one, creating a larger gap between it and the Republic of Gamers brand. It’s certainly a strange choice as no white ROG boards are available, and so they almost had a captive audience. Given the world financial crisis, global supply shortages and the general cost of implementing PCI Express 5.0 on motherboards, a lot of the X670E based models have come with the kind of price tags that cause the 1% to weep into their Armani cornflakes. Therefore, in this particular instance, we’re not averse to ASUS having trimmed things down a little to keep costs affordable.

Let’s cast our eyes across the ASUS Prime X670E-Pro WiFi and see what it’s bringing to the party.

Technical Specifications

Despite it’s relatively sane pricing, the Prime actually ticks all the boxes that we hope to find on a AM5 motherboard. DDR5, PCI Express 5.0, plenty of M.2 slots and even a Thunderbolt USB4 port. Add that to the 70A 14+2 power stages and we hopefully have a motherboard which performs well. We know that block diagrams aren’t the most interesting things in the world, more useful to designers or presentations than they are to us humble users, but we know some of you have been asking to see how the AM5 ties together, so that is for you. For the rest of us though, it’s time to see it in the flesh and then put it up against its contemporaries.
