ASUS Z790-A Prime WiFi Review
Up Close – Packaging and Overview
The packaging for the Prime is quite grey and monochrome, like a winters day in a big city. It’s certainly not the sort of packaging you’ll be showing off in the background of your latest Twitch stream. Yes we are aware of what we have in the background of these shots.
A running theme of the Prime is how much it reminds us of the ASUS TUF. You get the bare necessities of accessories; drivers, manual, SATA cables, WiFi antenna, M.2 screws. No excess.
We loved the Prime for being white and bold. We all know how much the Bossman likes his white hardware. To stray from that formula in a world of black motherboards, and instead go for a silver effect, seems a curious choice by ASUS.
Stranger still is how much black they’ve put on the now silver heatsinks. It’s too much for anyone who wants a silver accented motherboard, which is too much for anyone hoping for a new white motherboard, and yet not enough to cover up the silver factor for people who want a darker motherboard. It seems to cater to nobody.
Although it’s only a tiny detail, we feel the use of “Space 2049” is indicative of the amount of care that’s gone in to the design. Think space you think NASA. The only thing NASA have planned for 2049 is that is the date by which they wish to have got to Uranus. Exactly.
