NZXT Z890 N9 and N7 Review

N7 Z890 Overview

We always like the simplicity of NZXTs packaging and their N7 Z890 is no exception. Clear product imagery. Bold company colours. Lovely. We even note they’ve adopted MSIs giant battery warning sticker. Just in case you can open your mouth wide enough to eat a motherboard.

It’s pretty. From a distance. There is a uniformity to proceedings that ends up being attractive. If you only ever plan on using a single M.2 you’d like the NZXT N7.

N7 Z890 Overview

Mmm Gen 5 speed. If you’ve been reading any of our M.2 Gen 5 reviews you’ll know how fast the latest storage options go. Who wouldn’t want a piece of that.

Although not as pretty as the Gen 5 M.2 cover on either of the N9s, the N7 at least has a metal heatsink for maximum heat dispersal. Yes we know that all heatsinks are metal. We’re building up to our big point.

Beneath the cover you’ll find the other M.2 slots on the NZXT N7. Not that we’d recommend you ever install anything into them. Why? Well…

And here is the caveat. The reason we just couldn’t recommend this to anyone. Plastic M.2 covers. Not only are they not helpful in cooling your NVMe drives, they’re actually insulating them. Making them hotter. Worse than useless. Actively working against fast transfer speeds. When the N9 is so right, who on earth signed off on this?

What the freak is this?
