NZXT Z890 N9 and N7 Review

Introduction

The Intel Core Ultra processors will probably end up being a footnote in the history books. Whether it was the taste of the 14th Gen processors still fresh on our palate or Intel’s admission it was a stop gap, not many have been sold.

This does, however, mean that the actual CPUs are surprisingly affordable. Supply and demand being what it is. If you’ve been eyeing up a 13th or 14th Gen Intel processor then why not go with an Ultra? It’s basically a 14th Gen with more PCI lanes and better efficiency. More than enough performance to last you for a few years. And if that sounds good, why not take advantage of the new Z890 motherboards from NZXT?

There are two new models in their Intel range. The N9 is their flagship one, and far and away our favourite of the two. The N7 is more affordable, but with a pretty big caveat. If you’ve already seen our thoughts on the NZXT N9 X870E then you’ll already know of the main selling point for the N9 Z890. If not, let’s do it to it.

Specifications

As is often the case with motherboards, the main difference between the big NZXT N9 Z890 and the more affordable N7 Z890 is the difference in connections. USB ports and M.2 slots in particular. However the N7 also has another major change from the N9. One that we’ll very much leave you guessing about until we get there in a few pages time. Those of you familiar with our methods here will realise why we’ve ordered the two in the way we have.
