Updating our Gigabyte RTX 3070 Gaming OC to support Resizable BAR

We have already tested the impact of Resizable BAR support on Radeon graphics cards, on both Intel and AMD-powered systems, and our prior articles detail how to update your motherboard’s BIOS and how to enable Resizable BAR support on them.

The meat of this guide is how to upgrade your graphics card’s BIOS to enable Resizable BAR on your RTX 30 series graphics card. To do this, we will be using Gigabyte’s RTX 3070 Gaming OC graphics card.

Step 1 – Prep your gaming system

Before updating your graphics card’s BIOS, you should first update your motherboard’s BIOS and enable Resizable BAR within your UEFI. Without motherboard-based Resizable BAR support, you will not be able to utilise Resizable BAR on your graphics card.

To enable Resizable BAR on Geforce systems, you will also need to install GPU drivers that support Reliable BAR. For RTX 30 series graphics cards, Nvidia’s Geforce 465.89 WHQL drivers or newer feature support for Resizable BAR. However, it is worth remembering that newer drivers will likely support Resizable BAR across a broader selection of PC games.

Which BIOS should I use?

Using Techpowerup GPUz, a popular GPU analysis tool, you can uncover a lot of information about your graphics card. This information includes your GPU’s BIOS revision.

By heading over to GPUz’s Advanced Menu, you can use the tool’s drop-down menu to select “Nvidia BIOS” as an option. From there, you can read which version of Gigabyte’s GPU BIOS is used on your graphics card.

As underlined below, our RTX 3070 Gaming OC uses Gigabyte’s F1 BIOS. This means that we should download Gigabyte’s F3 BIOS update.

Extracting Gigabyte’s BIOS Update Files

After downloading Gigabyte’s RTX 3070 Gaming OC BIOS update, you should extract Gigabyte’s Zip file and look at the folder inside. To get this BIOS update to work, we needed to extract the “x64” folder to access our GPU’s BIOS update.

From here, we can now enter Gigabyte’s x64 folder and then run the folder’s “N3070GOL.F3” file, which will start the BIOS update process. This BIOS update should take less than a minute to complete, and users should not power down their system until the update process finished.

After updating your GPU’s BIOS, you should restart your system.
