MSI RTX 5080 Expert Review

Introduction

Regular readers might remember how much we loved the MSI RTX 4080 Super Expert. In fact we loved it so much we dismantled it, painted it, and it sits pride of place in our office. During our recent visit to Computex MSI revealed the next version of the Expert card, in RTX 5080 form.

By now everyone knows the performance of the current generation of Nvidia cards. There might be other options if you’ve got a tight budget. You might be psychologically predisposed to only by things from AMD. But if you just want the best possible gaming experience, and are enthusiastic enough to lay down some serious dough to achieve it, then you have to go with the RTX 5080 or 5090.

Obviously both cards are relatively expensive, but the RTX 5080 is really good value. It can run literally anything currently available. At any resolution. With everything turned on. There are few things more disheartening than blowing your budget only to discover you’re having to delve into the settings and turn some things down or off entirely. The RTX 5080 is good enough you’ll be looking for extra ways to enhance your visuals.

Which brings us to today’s review, the MSI RTX 5080 Expert. The sequel to a card, as we said above, that we adored the design of. This one has seen some revisions to it’s aesthetics, perhaps influenced by a certain Stuttgart company, perhaps not. We’re already itching to dismantle it and give it a makeover, but before we can do that we need to put it through it’s paces. Let’s find out how it performs.
