It isn’t only the gaudy numbers that have increased on the GTX 1080 Ti, but how nVidia utilise them has also changed, with many under the hood improvements. Probably the biggest is the way that nVidia have taken a leaf out of the mobile world and utilised, where possible, tiled rendering. This, as anyone who has run CineBench will understand, can significantly speed up the time it takes to get the completed frame on screen. Combining this with the already blazing memory bandwidth numbers and it is one of those architectural changes that can really give real world benefits whilst maximising the advantage that this faster memory brings to the table.

A more subtle – at least to the end user – improvement is a boost to the already impressive power efficiency. Any time you saturate the power phases you begin to lose efficiency but by implementing a 7 phase dual-FET design the GTX 1080 Ti manages to improve upon the already excellent efficiency of the GTX 1080.
