ASUS ROG Strix Impact II Gaming Mouse Review

Introduction

Given how often a manufacturer will update and refresh their product range it comes as a little bit of a surprise that it has been three years since we saw the original ASUS Strix Impact mouse pass through our offices. Indeed it’s been so long that when we first saw it the Strix logo on the packaging hadn’t yet been turned into a uniform rainbow Eye logo, but instead was the word STRIX in bold letters.

That was, of course, when the Strix brand was still just about finding its feet and getting a grip on the market. Nowadays it’s an absolute behemoth and very much the popular sub-brand of the Republic Of Gamers range. The Strix GPUs are the ones people dream of, their motherboards sell in vast quantities, indeed it’s in danger of overtaking the ROG name itself when people first think of a high end ASUS product.

A lot has happened in the gaming mouse world since the original Impact was launched. Mice now have insane DPIs, the Avago sensor has been entirely replaced by the PixArt one in almost every mouse of note, and five buttons is no longer the default of mice, but very much an indicator of a lower priced offering.

With a chance to revise the Strix Impact II and bring it bang up to date, let’s see what ASUS has given it to bring it back up to date.

Technical Specifications

The original Strix Impact sported a 5000 DPI sensor, so the move up to 6200 DPI isn’t quite the leap we were expecting. Lighting has been improved to three zones rather than just the one, and the Impact II now enables you to swap the switches out, should you so desire it. Let’s look at it in the flesh.
