Simplistic is definitely the watchword for the Forge GK600 TKL Wireless box art. Product shot, MSI logo, name. Job done. Around the back we get the broad feature list and specifications. Full N-Key rollover and anti-ghosting are elements we’ve come to expect these days. It shows how far keyboards have come.
Within the box we find the Forge GK600 itself, a long braided USB Type-A to Type-C cable, a keycap puller and a spare switch. The first thing we note is that there has been a design change between the box art and the product. The photo above has the number keys font centralised. On the finished article they’re at the top. A shame. Although we’re glad to see they added the Gr to the right Alt key.
You can also see the 1″ screen at the top right. This lets you control everything, as we’ll see on the next page.
We get so used to single hue keycaps that the MSI came as a bit of a shock. Companies seemingly spend a fortune giving you all white or black keys. Here there are three different colours. It certainly grabs the attention and reminds us of our formative years when keyboards were buff and brown.
Comfort is key when it comes to typing. The MSI Forge has two different heights available on the feet to ensure you can angle the GK600 to your taste. Additionally the cable can be routed out the left or right, depending on your preference.
Connections
Controlling which system you’re connected to and how exactly you are connected, is all done from the bottom middle. We’re not hugely sure how long the press-fit wireless receiver will remain in place. Perhaps if you carry the Forge GK600 around a lot then keep an eye, or grab some double loop Velcro.
The MSI Forge GK600 TKL Sky has some unusual colours on the key, but the switches are probably the most unusual of all. Who knew you could get Sonic Blue switches? Switches are the cornerstone of any good mechanical keyboard. The GK600 ones are dustproof so you know they’ll have longevity. They are also hot-swappable, on the off-chance you need to. For us we just enjoy the linear and light typing feel. Nothing tells us, but at a guess we’d say these are Cherry Reds, or an identical copy.
