MSI Forge GK600 TKL Wireless Sky Keyboard Review
Conclusion
Conclusion
Firstly, let us consider the MSI Forge GK600 just as a keyboard. Whilst we love having bells and whistles, the typing experience is 90% of any keyboard’s worth.
Fortunately the Forge GK600 is wonderful to type on. MSI don’t reveal which exact switches are in the Forge, but they feel like Reds to us. Or one of the closest approximations to. If you’re going to clone a mechanical switch, that’s the best one to pick. It’s certainly our favourite. The GK600 has a smooth, linear feel, and the actuation pressure is nice and light, letting your fingers fly without becoming fatigued. Despite the compact dimensions your fingers don’t have any problem hitting the right key either. As you can imagine, we can touch type incredibly quickly. Some of the 65% ones can trip us up, but the GK600 feels like a full size. It’s very nice.
Screen
The screen is probably the feature that will gain the greatest attention. There aren’t many keyboards with screens built in. MSIs take isn’t the first, but it’s a 1″ full colour one. Where this really scores big points in making it clear what you’re doing. Often keyboards use Fn plus another key to control lighting and things, and the Forge GK600 is no exception. As you could see on the previous page you get a really clear indication of what is going on. In certain ways. One of the negatives is that the manual, such as it is, tells you almost nothing. Additionally some of the iconography used isn’t particularly clear. You do get used to it pretty quickly, but there is a fairly steep learning curve as there is with any new product. Once you know what each icon means, the benefits of the screen far outweigh that curve.
Final Thoughts
Back on page one we showed how MSI have put a lot of effort into keeping the Forge GK600 quiet. Indeed the multi-layer solution has proven fantastic on Ducky keyboards. Whilst the MSI isn’t quite as quiet as the class leading One X, it’s quieter than the vast majority of mechanical keyboards. Where MSI have really scored big is in taking any high frequency clacking away. The Forge GK600 is muted and midrange and a delight to listen to.
With support for basically anything you could possibly connect a keyboard to, a gorgeous typing experience and the useful, albeit under-explained, screen the MSI Forge GK600 TKL Wireless Sky ticks a huge amount of boxes and wins our OC3D Gamers Choice award.
