Up Close

NZXT are one of the few companies who have a consistent theme to their packaging. So few companies have a company colour these days. The stark contrast of bold white lettering and purple accents against clear product imagery and feature sets make the NZXT boxes stand out from their contemporaries.

Within the box you get a keycap puller, a switch puller and lengthy braided cable. With four extra key switches – 35g and 45g actuation – you can quickly test the light feeling NZXT Swift optical switches against a more common design. Should you so wish.

Accessories

There is as much beneath the skin of the Function 2 as there on top. There is no denying the build quality. The chassis is robust and stiff. That 3mm aluminium top plate lends an air of class to proceedings. Beneath the switches and top plate are two layers of dampening foam. The switches themselves are pre-lubricated and plate-mounted. Add to that the optical nature of them and the Function 2 is as quiet as a serious keyboard could be.

NZXT Function 2 Overview

Comfortably operation is vital, particularly during those marathon sessions. The NZXT Function 2 boasts plenty of rubber feet to keep it in place. Perhaps best of all the feet are two stage, so you’re guaranteed to have the height you desire.

Feet

As well as being able to spot the 3mm thick aluminium top, you can also see the volume roller and side controls. The ability to toggle your locks, lighting and mute with a quick one-button press is more useful than you might imagine. Because in the heat of battle, you don’t want to be fumbling for a function key combo. We love having things like this within easy reach. The volume roller especially is a high quality feeling item. A soft touch surface on a weighty, smooth scrolling roller. Very nice.

Side Buttons

Lifting the Doubleshot PBT keycaps off the new NZXT Swift switches shows off the attention to detail of the Function 2. Firstly the stalks are the common MX Cross pattern, enabling you to buy custom keycaps without worry. Secondly those stalks are in the NZXT purple colour scheme. We know you’ll rarely see them, but that is what makes them so nice. NZXT could’ve used any colour, but it’s a gift for those who peek behind the wizard’s curtain.
