Power Supplies – New SF and Vengeance series units!

Corsair has quickly become one of the world’s leading power supply brands, frequently topping the charts in our PSU testing. As a company, Corsair takes pride in their component selection, which allows them to offer extremely low ripple and high levels of efficiency in their units.

With their recently released AX1600i, the company has also started to use new materials, moving beyond silicon to create one of their most impressive units to date. 

At Computex, Corsair is showcasing two new entries into their power supply product stack, delivering an enhanced version of their small form factor SF series alongside their more affordable Vengeance series.  

 

Corsair’s new SF series of power supplies will act as direct replacements for their Gold-rated SF450 and SF600, bumping up the efficiency rating to 80 Platinum while offering a seven-year warranty. 

Other upgrades include the addition of pre-braided black cables, which offer a substantial visual improvement over the all-black plastic cables of their predecessors. Corsair has also made these cables shorter to better suit small form factor systems and has included an SFX to ATX adapter for anyone who wishes to use this PSU in a full ATX system. 

Corsair’s updated SF series of power supplies will come to market sometime in July with 450W and 600W models. 

  

 

Second up is Corsair’s new Vengeance M series of power supplies, which are designed to act as budget performers with an 80 Silver level of efficiency. These units will ship in 650W and 750W form and come with a corsair SP series fan with a 0dB mode when running at low loads.   

These power supplies will ship with a five-year warranty and offer a semi-modular design. 24-pin and 8-pin EPS power are directly connected to the unit, a logical choice since every modern system requires both of these cables to function. 

Corsair’s 80 efficiency may not be impressive when compared to the Platinum Rating of the SF450/SF600, though it is a notable upgrade over 80 Bronze. Remember that increased power efficiency will result in less heat output from the PSU, which in turn will lead to lower cooling requirements. This, in turn, will allow Corsair’s new vengeance series to remain quiet under load, minimising fan noise.
