Best Motherboard – ASUS’ ROG Maximus Z890 Hero

While ASUS simply called it a “Next-Generation Intel” motherboard, we all know what this is. This is a Z890 motherboard for Intel Arrow Lake. Specifically, this is the ASUS ROG Maximus Z890 Hero BTF, an incredible looking motherboard design.

ASUS BTF motherboard design takes back-connect support another level, supporting back-connect GPU power through a custom graphics card high-power (GC-HPWR) connector. It also boasts features like PCIe 5.0 connectivity, DDR5 support, WIFI 7, and Thunderbolt 4. You name it, this motherboard probably has it.

With this board design, we can clearly see ASUS fully adopt motherboard back-connect technology. This board has not hint of where standard forward-facing connections would have been, unlike many older back-connect motherboard designs. The era of “cable-free” PCs has arrived, and this motherboard will help push it into more and more enthusiast PC builds.

Honourable Mention – AMD’s AM5 platform

An honourable mention has to go to AMD’s AM5 motherboard platform. At Computex 2024, AMD has extended their commitment to AM5 motherboard support past 2027. AM5 will be another long-lived socket from AMD, which is great news for enthusiasts everywhere. New and existing AM5 users can look forward to upgrading their AM5 systems with new Ryzen processors for many year to come.
