Corsair HX1000i 80 Plus Platinum iCUE Power Supply Review
Up Close
There are few things in our industry more recognisable than a Corsair box with it’s bright yellow colour scheme, and the HXi range of power supplies is the latest in a long line of attention grabbing packaging efforts from the Fremont company.
We’re big fans of the internal package design too, with the cables in a separate box and the PSU itself very well protected in some thick foam.
Speaking of cables, with the HX1000i you get the ATX 24 pin, three 4+4 ATX 12V, three long PCIe cables with enough 2 connectors per end, two 4 connector SATA power cables, two 4 connector PATA cables, and a single USB Type-C for the iCUE integration.
The HX1000i is fully modular, so none of that tucking away of cables you’re not interested in. You can also see the iCUE connector which allows the HX1000i to integrate into Corsair’s software package letting you create custom fan profiles.
Although with a zero speed capable 140mm fan keeping everything cool, the default profile keeps things cool and quiet throughout operation if you’re the fit and forget type.
Yet another product which makes use of the USB 2.0 internal headers on your motherboard. Eventually motherboards are going to have to have more of the older tech just to handle the controls of all our devices.
The slightly bevelled case makes a nice change from the usual 90° boxes that power supplies come in. Tiny difference we know, but it looks more professional for reasons we can’t explain.
