DOOM Eternal PC Performance Analysis and Optimisation Guide

DOOM Eternal PC Performance Analysis and Optimisation Guide

Resolution Scaling – 720p to 4K

We had a simple question, how fast could we get DOOM Eternal to run on our test system at its maxed-out settings? To do this, we started lowering the game’s resolution on when using our RTX 2080 Ti to see how fast the game could run at 1080p, 900p and then 720p.

It is clear, based on the graph below, that we are starting to hit a bottleneck in our system at low resolutions. This bottleneck is likely from our i7-6850K processor. We would likely get higher framerates using faster memory and a newer processor like AMD’s Ryzen 3rd generation 3800X or 3950X, or Intel’s i9-9900K, thanks to their increased single-threaded and multi-threaded performance. Even so, average framerates that reach this high are nothing to sniff at, especially in a singleplayer game.
