DRAGON QUEST XI: Echoes of an Elusive Age PC Performance Review

4K Benchmarks – AMD VS Nvidia

In our 4K testing, we found that only our Nvidia GTX 1080 was able to keep Dragon Quest XI running at over 30FPS consistently, with both our RX Vega 56 and GTX 1070 dipping below our 30FPS framerate target in our demanding test area.

With a minor reduction in resolution scale, or “screen percentage” as it is called in Dragon Quest XI, players will be able to maintain 30 FPS framerates throughout the game on the GTX 1070 and RX Vega 56, though with this change the game isn’t technically running at 4K anymore.

4K 60FPS is beyond the capabilities of the graphics cards in our test suite, making Dragon Quest XI a lot more demanding than its cartoonish art style would suggest. Even graphics cars like the GTX 1080 Ti wouldn’t be able to run Dragon Quest XI at a full 4K 60FPS in demanding areas, as we would require a performance boost of over 80% to get over the 60FPS minimum framerate mark in our test area.

As we have mentioned before, many areas of the game a significantly less demanding than our test scene, allowing large sections of the game to play at higher framerates than are recorded below.  This will make a 30 FPS gameplay possible throughout large parts of the game on our RX Vega 56 and GTX 1070, though we would still recommend a small drop in resolution scale to keep the game permanently above 60FPS.
