1080p Performance – Benchmark Results

With Gears 5 we have been able to test a lot more than our usual test suite, enabling us to showcase Gears 5’s performance across Polaris, Pascal, Navi, Turing and Vega series graphics cards. 

At 1080p Ultra settings, we can see that GPUs like the RTX 2060 FE, Radeon RX Vega 56 or GTX 1080 are required to maintain solid 60 FPS framerates. Nvidia’s GTX 1070 also comes close to hitting this mark, but it requires some minor settings adjustment to completely achieve this go. Turning Shadows down one setting should be sufficient. 

We can also see that Nvidia’s RTX 2080 Ti doesn’t sit far above the RTX 2080 Super in terms of average framerate, which suggests that game performance might be limited by our six-core i7-6850K processor, which we have clocked at 4GHz.

What needs to be mentioned here is how fast Powercolor’s Radeon RX 5700 graphics card are here, with the RX 5700 XT Red Devil surpassing AMD’s Radeon VII and Nvidia’s RTX 2070 Super. Likewise, the Powercolor Radeon RX 5700 Red Devil gives Nvidia’s RTX 2060 SUPER a run for its money, despite being priced at RTX 2060 money. 

At 1080p, the price/performance champion in Gears 5 is AMD’s Radeon RX 5700 XT.  

Please note that Gears 5’s benchmark is more demanding than most of the full game at Ultra settings. Yes, some areas of the game will reach similar minimums, but we have played hours of the campaign where we have never seen dips below the average on this graph. If you get a minimum of over 60 in this graph, you are likely to never see a dip below 60 in the game.
