Metro Exodus PC Performance Review - RTX On!

Scalability in Metro Exodus – Graphics Settings with the Radeon RX 580 and Geforce GTX 1060

If you haven’t already realised this, Metro Exodus is a demanding PC game, offering graphical options that are designed with future GPU generations in mind. The same considerations applied to Metro 2033 and Metro: Last Light, making this an expectation for 4A Games, taking up the mantle that Crytek left behind with Crysis.

4A Games wants to push hardware, which is why we also see cutting edge technologies like DLSS and RTX Ray Tracing, but that doesn’t mean that we cannot achieve great performance in Metro Exodus.

We will note here that our benchmark is from a demanding location within the game, securing a low minimum framerate that occurs often enough in the game to be worth pointing out. We will also note that large sections of the game will be played ar our average framerate of higher, with minimal drops towards our benchmarking minimums. Long story short, if you have an average framerate of over 60FPS here, it will be that way about 80% of the time within the game.

With the Radeon RX 580 and GTX 1060 graphics cards 1080p High settings is an ideal starting point when it comes to optimisation, offering an average framerate of 60FPS and a minimum that’s high enough to not become a major issue in the game’s more demanding sections. With this in mind, players can opt to play at medium on the RX 580 and GTX 1060 to make these dips less noticeable, or change the game’s resolution scale a little to make the game’s challenging areas a little more tolerable framerate-wise. It only takes a few seconds to change Metro’s resolution scale, so it is a good on-the-fly adjustment to make when framerates start dipping.
