Port Report - Yakuza 6: The Song of Love

CPU Scaling – How many Cores does Yakuza 6 need?

CPU-wise, Yakuza 6 is not a demanding game to run on PC, though it looks like the game’s performance maxes out when our Ryzen 9 3950X is set up with eight cores and sixteen threads on a single CPU chiplet. This could mean that inter-chiplet communications may hinder Yakuza 6’s performance, albeit by a small margin.

Regardless of what CPU configuration we used, we experienced the same stutter when sprinting across Kamurocho, though we noted significant performance drops when moving from six cores (with SMT) to four cores (with SMT). An even larger performance dip can be seen when we disabled SMT in our quad-core setup.

When it comes to CPUs, Yakuza 6 is not a hugely demanding game, assuming that you are not aiming for 120Hz refresh rates. Sadly, stutters occurred regardless of our CPU core configuration. While these stutters are not welcome, they are forgivable given the fact that they aren’t present outside of level traversal in large city scenes.

Here it is also worth remembering that this game only costs £14.99 on Steam and is available as part of Xbox Game Pass. This is not a premium port.
